Who we are

The Institute for Indo-Pacific Security (IIPS) is the successor to the Project 2049 Institute.

IIPS builds on Project 2049’s core strengths in China and Taiwan analysis, while devoting greater resources to the study of issues pertaining to allies and partners, defense and emerging technology, and economic security. IIPS is dedicated to shaping U.S. strategy and policy to win the global competition with China, focused on the Indo-Pacific.

Mission

IIPS’s mission is to be at the leading edge of strategy and policy development for how the United States must compete, and win, a global competition with China, centered on the Indo-Pacific. The core pillars that guide our efforts are:

  • Expose the Chinese Communist Party’s ambitions and tactics to undermine the global order.
  • Promote new global economic and security power centers to counter Beijing.
  • Promote a renewed U.S.-led order, anchored in respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, a preference for the peaceful resolution of disputes, and the embrace of universal human rights.
  • Safeguard against authoritarian attempts to undermine the American way of life and threaten global peace and stability.
  • Strengthen America’s alliances and partnerships in the Indo-Pacific.
  • Prepare for conventional and emerging threats across the security, economic, and technological domains.

Support Our Mission

IIPS’s work is made possible by a community of supporters that share the institute’s values and believe in its mission.
