When U.S. President Donald Trump praised South Korea’s investment in the Philadelphia Shipyard during his APEC speech, he was signaling more than economic cooperation – he was reaffirming a critical South Korea-U.S. alliance at a time when Beijing is testing its limits. This bold statement is a welcome change and tone for South Korea, a nation that just experienced Chinese sanctions against five U.S.-linked units of Hanwha Ocean for its shipbuilding activities in the United States.
